The Hardacre is one of the few precious opportunities those of us in our region of the Midwest have to screen truly independent and underground cinema. One of the primary goals of the Hardacre Film & Cinema Festival is to bring a diverse selection of cutting edge independent motion pictures to an Eastern Iowa audience who otherwise would not have an opportunity to view these films.

Iowa is home to some very well-known movie settings (Field of Dreams, Bridges of Madison County) and is enjoying a surge in the film industry in recent years, both in terms of new festivals (Landlocked, New Strand) and major productions (The Final Season, Sugar).

In 2008, we screened 22 films (7 features, 15 shorts) from around the world over a two-day festival. These included five world premieres.

HFCF calls the historic town of Tipton its home. With hospitality like no other and a plethora of other activities in the area, you can make a whole weekend of it!

If you want to come to a festival free of the typical indie film politicking, blatant schmoozing and commercialism, HFCF is for you. The focus is cinema as art, and the filmmakers as artists.
