Tipton, Iowa with a population of 3,155 is the county seat of Cedar County. Uniquely located in rural eastern Iowa, the community is centrally located between the major metropolitan areas of Iowa City (25 miles to the west), Cedar Rapids (45 miles to the northwest) and the Quad Cities (40 miles to the east). Access to these cities is provided by Interstate 80 (9 minutes south) and Hwy. 30 (9 minutes north).
While retaining its agrarian history the community offers a variety, educational and recreational amenities including a new indoor/ outdoor aquatic center, Carnegie library, and spacious park. The community supports a year round recreational program for both children and adults.
The K-12 school district facilities are located in Tipton with a remodeled elementary facility adjoining a recently constructed middle school that also includes a state of the art media center and full size competition gymnasium. The recently remodeled high school presents a comfortable, well equipped learning environment. The Kirkwood Community College learning center is located on the north edge of Tipton.
Two medical clinics, three dental facilities, three chiropractic clinics, two pharmacies and a vision center serve the medical needs of the community.
